After Mariken spent seven years in Antwerp with the devil, she returns to Nijmegen. I think she was homesick. A sinful and dissolute life also has routine, it seems to me. Even the voluptuous sparrows can't get Mariken to move anymore. And poppy no longer intoxicates her. It's time to repent.
